Dear Grey,
We have lots of very intersting vehicles here in Antarctica! I thought you would like to see some of them. They are all very helpful for all the jobs that have to be done here. Can you guess what each machine is used for?

| This is called a Piston Buddy. I don't know why they call it that, but I call you my Big Buddy and this made me think of you. Why do you think the Piston Buddy has tracks intead of wheels? |

| These two machines look very different from each other, but they do the same job! Do you know what that is? |

| This Piston Buddy is very special. It has a snowplow in front, and in the back it has a workspace. This machine is used on the South Pole Traverse. It leads the way for the tractors behind it and uses a special radar to help them find their way around crevasses in the glaciers they have to cross! |

| These tractors are very, very BIG, Grey!! They are also used on the South Pole Traverse. They pull very big sleds loaded with fuel drums and cargo all the way to the very bottom of the world! Can you guess how the tractors get here to Antarctica? |
I hope you liked looking some of our different trucks and tractors, Grey. They are very fun to watch! You would reallly like to watch them! I have some videos of some of these machines on a disc for you. I'll mail it to you so you can see them in action!

That was a fun game Daddy! We enjoyed answering your questions! We don't know what tractor in the third picture does though! We thought it carried people or cargo! Grey is excited about drawing one of the tractors - we will keep it a secrect though as to which one he will mail to you! Joleigh enjoyed the game too! Grey thought it was neat that there were different ways to help tractors move through the snow. We thought the tractor with tracks (which Grey knew what they were called) was cool. Thanks for taking time to do this for the kids.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you liked the game. I had fun taking pictures for you and making the blog. I took lots of videos for you too, but I will have to mail them to you on a disc because they are too big to put here. I forgot to add another picture to this blog! It's the fourth picture - and might be a clue for you to answer the question of the one before it! If this tractor (called a Delta) has a *flat* bed, does something go *on* it, or *in* it? If something goes on it, then how is the tractor in the 3rd picture different from it? Does the 3rd tractor have steps in the back? ;-) I also took another picture this morning of three VERY BIG tractors parked together. I will put it at the very end for you to see! :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Daddy!! I saw the pictures you added. The 4th picture is a flatbed to haul things ON it. The 3rd picture is used to put things or people IN it! Am I right? Also, the three BIG BIG tractors are neat! I think they were brougt to Antarctica on a C130 Hercules or on a boat!
